Q&A

Q: How often should I visit the dentist?
A: To ensure you achieve and maintain optimal oral health, you should attend a check-up appointment every six months. However, for some patients where chronic systemic conditions may put the stability of their health at risk, more frequent preventive care visits may be required.

In time, we will get to know you and your specific health needs. We will be able then, to recommend a preventive care appointment schedule that helps to optimise your health.

Q. What is the appropriate age for my child’s first dental visit?

A. Your child’s teeth begin to develop bellow gum line even before they are born. At iSmile Studio, we recommend children first see our team as early as six-months old and no later than one year old.

During this time, your child’s baby teeth will be coming in and our dental team can examine the health of their first few teeth and gums and offer you advice on how to care for them.

We routinely check tongue and lip attachments to ensure that they do not impact negatively on your baby’s ability to breastfeed and thrive properly.

We often work in conjunction with lactation consultants to resolve lactation difficulties related to the tongue and lips. In some cases our youngest patients are newborn babies who require laser release of tethered oral tissues [TOT].

We keep a close eye on oral posture dysfunction, mode of breathing and finger or thumb sucking habits.

After their first visit, be sure to schedule regular checkups so we can monitor the development of their teeth and encourage good facial bone growth and balanced teeth function.

Q. Can anyone have implants?
A. One of the biggest advantages of dental implants is the vast majority of people are suitable candidates.

A dental implant is just one step in the restorative cycle, not the end. In many cases implants can be placed immediately after extraction of a problem tooth. A dental implant integrates with the bone and replicates a missing natural tooth root. Dental implants look, feel and function like natural teeth and can restore your smile, your confidence and your oral health.

After you receive a dental implant, it is important to maintain a regular and thorough at-home oral care routine and attend preventive care appointments at iSmile Studio every 6 months.

Q. How much whiter will Zoom whitening make my teeth?
A. ZOOM! in-chair teeth whitening is very popular because it’s safe, fast and results can last for years.

Although individual results can vary for numerous reasons, typically people have been able to brighten their smile by as much as 12 shades. People who notice the most dramatic difference are those whose teeth are quite discoloured.
Teeth whitening treatments are only effective on natural tooth enamel. If you have crowns or veneers you may need to replace them after your whitening treatment so they match your new smile shade.

Zoom! Whitening takes approximately one hour. Depending on the colour of your teeth and the shade you wish to achieve, we may re-apply the gel every 15 – 20 minutes.

After your whitening treatment it’s recommended you not drink tea, coffee and red wine or eat highly coloured foods for at least 48 hours. You should also not smoke for at least four days as this can negatively affect your results.
